do they matter? [ yes ] and [ no ]
While photographic gear can be important, it’s not the sole determinant of creating a great image. A skilled photographer can produce exceptional photos using any well-functioning camera. I do not do gear reviews, but I share what gear I have used. This page has been designed to record the camera systems I’ve used as a photographer and graphic designer. Here, you’ll uncover the specific camera bodies, lenses, and accessories I’ve paired with each system, including instances where I’ve mixed and matched items for optimal results. Items I carry in my bag or regret parting with are marked with a [yes], while those I’ve let go of receive a [no], and I clarify the reasons behind these decisions, accompanied by images I’ve created using the gear.
When questioned why I continue to shoot film, I often respond with this analogy: Consider someone who enjoys fishing; they find joy in the tactile sensations and the tranquility of being in nature. Can this truly be equated to merely pulling fish from a freezer? I am not calling digital photography frozen fish; I am just trying to emphasize that shooting film is a process, not just a means to an end. – darr almeda
