In a nearby Florida tourist town, beneath a cornflower blue sky and savoring the salty, warm air, I wandered past mid-19th-century packinghouses that once stored cotton bales and shipbottom shellfish, now transformed into trendy restaurants and expensive trinket shops. With my digital camera and a single lens, I ventured into street photography despite my usual awkwardness about it.

I’ve been practicing the ‘one camera, one lens’ exercise with my Hasselblad 907x and 45P lens for a couple of years, partly to hone my skills and partly because no other lenses interested me—until the 28P lens came along. Now, I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Using the 907x, which has a tilting screen instead of a traditional viewfinder, feels like using my old 501CM with a waist-level finder. Surprisingly, it makes for a decent street camera.

As I approached a quiet street, an orange facade up ahead contrasted strikingly with the blue sky. “There’s a picture to be made here,” I thought. Closer inspection revealed it was a local bar, and despite it being early in the day, I saw the silhouettes of two men having a good time inside from where I stood across the street.

As I walked toward the bar, I saw its unique wall paintings, picnic tables, and quirky signs. But what truly caught my attention was the laughter coming from inside.

This image captures an unexpected moment of joy and discovery, highlighted by the vibrant orange facade and the cornflower blue sky—my favorite childhood crayon color.

Discovering the High Five Dive Bar, which humorously bills itself as an “adult day care center,” with a Laurel and Hardy duo enjoying early morning happy hour amid touches of childhood color nostalgia — that’s street photography at its finest!
