Chasing Light and Time: A Pinhole Reflection for Worldwide Pinhole Day 2025

Worldwide Pinhole Day was yesterday, April 27, 2025.

Each year, I try to honor it, caught under the gentle spell of pinhole photography — or, as I like to call it, Pintography.

I enjoy using pinhole cameras in 4×5 and 6×6 formats (Hasselblad with a pinhole cap). Though I once wandered happily with a 6×17 pinhole, my return to a Fotoman 6×17 has allowed that camera to slip quietly into the background, waiting for its time again.

I prefer box-style 4×5 cameras, such as the ONDU Rise, for their simplicity. They are easy to place on a small tripod, a countertop, or even directly on the floor.

For this shoot, I used the ONDU Rise mounted on a compact tabletop tripod with a tiny ball head.

The kitchen floor became my staging area, chosen on a whim. I have always appreciated the way afternoon light spills across that space.

The exposure for this image was one hour and 18 minutes.

The film, Ilford HP5+, was processed in an AGO film processor using 510 Pyro developer for 9 minutes.

An exposure lasting one hour and eighteen minutes allowed the slow drift of light and time to settle onto the film, holding a brief moment before it vanished.

In the long exposure, even the clock’s second hand disappeared — a quiet trace lost to the flow of time and light.

I hope you enjoy Pintography as much as I do!
