Think Tank Photo gear is my first choice for backpacks, shoulder bags, and storage accessories. I have been using their products for over ten years and am happy with all my purchases. I never tire of their shoulder bags made in the classic look of their Retrospective series in Pinestone color. Think Tank’s Camera Strap Version 2 is a favorite and is attached to all my medium-format cameras. It is comfortable and slip-resistant, plus I like the way it looks. I acquired Think Tank totes for stowing groceries when shopping and for clothes storage when camper van camping. They are lightweight and excellent-quality totes.
The Mindshift Backlight 26L (link to my ALPA Roadkit in the 26L) has a more traditional backpack look and was my first rear-opening pack. It is my largest backpack and is comfortable to wear when fully packed. The Retrospective 15 backpacks are my favorite backpacks. Because I am a petite female, I cannot carry as much gear as some larger-built photographers, and the Retrospective 15 allows me to carry just enough and keeps the weight manageable. It fits my three-lens Hasselblad film kit and is comfortable to wear. I enjoy the Retrospective 15 pack so much that shortly after I acquired one, I began searching the used market for a couple more as I prefer to store my various camera systems in a pack 24/7; it makes it easy to grab and go. My Linhof 4×5 three-lens kit fits into a Retrospective 15, and my Fujifilm APS-C Retrospective 15 travel pack holds two camera bodies, two zoom lenses, and two primes plus accessories and is a breeze to carry and access the gear.
I prefer stowing my gear in individual cases, as shown in the CityWalker 30 below. When I get a new backpack, I remove the dividers and place my gear inside the backpack in its own case. I do this because protecting, organizing, and packing gear is much easier. I recycle lens cases with new gear after the old gear moves on. Consider giving Think Tank Photo a try if you have not already.
